About Red Lodge Books
Red Lodge Books began its life as the Broadway Bookstore in 1987. It went through several incarnations (metaphysical, used, local history...) before being purchased by Gary & Kathy Robson in 2001. It has remained locally-owned and fiercely independent since the day it opened.
Today, Red Lodge Books is a full-service bookstore, about a block away from where it started. Our focus is local, with strong sections for local history, local authors, local maps & guidebooks, local music, and so forth, but we do have a great selection of general books as well--and a whole room full of used books in the back.
We also carry magazines, calendars, journals, local coffee, gourmet tea, quality cigars, and other products you'd expect to find in a full-service local bookstore.
Gary Robson
Gary is an author with 23 published books and a plethora of published articles on a wide variety of topics. He is probably best known for his Who Pooped in the Park? children's series. He has also worked as a college teacher, software engineer, microelectronics engineer, and accessibility consultant. He holds a U.S. Patent in video filtering technology, and a now-expired teaching credential in computer science. He is a Past Exalted Ruler at Beartooth Elks Lodge #534, and has served as board member and/or officer of a variety of local nonprofits, including the Red Lodge Festival of Nations, the Red Lodge Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Beartooth Nature Center.
Gary & Kathy also own and operate the Red Lodge Local Rag, the monthly alternative newspaper for southern Carbon County.
Kathy Robson
Kathy performs realtime television closed captioning for deaf and hard-of-hearing people. She can write at over 250 words per minute on her special shorthand machine with better than 99% accuracy. If you turn on the captioning on your television, you'll see her mostly on baseball, football, and rodeo, but also on a variety of other sports, news, and talk shows. She is past chair of the Belfry, Montana school board, and currently serves on the board of directors of the Beartooth Nature Center.
